YANDOIT, DRY DIGGINGS, GLENLYON

For some time past Church service has been discontinued at Glenlyon. At Yandoit and Dry Diggings there have been no services hitherto. The revival of mining interests at Yandoit suggested the propriety of endeavouring to combine the three above-named districts, with a view of providing them with the services of a reader. A public meeting was held recently at Yandoit for this object, and was well attended. The Archdeacon and the Rev. George Pollard were present, and after an hour's consultation steps were initiated to promote the project in the district of Yandoit with success. Similar meetings will be held at Dry Diggings and Glenlyon, and in a few weeks it is believed the services of a reader will be required for this hitherto neglected part of the country. The Archdeacon will be glad to hear from readers willing to undertake the duty.

- On Thursday evening last a meeting of the members of the United Church of England and Ireland was held at the common school-house, Glenlyon, to consider the advisability of establishing divine worship on the Lord's Day in connection with the above Church. The Rev. George Pollard, having been called to the chair, suggested the appointment of a secretary. Mr. George R. Robens was accordingly chosen. The chairman then explained the object of the meeting, and answered several questions relating to same. It was decided to appoint the following committee to canvass the district, and ascertain what support was likely to be received from the inhabitants: - Messrs. G. Cheeseborough, W. Shearman, T. T. Orde, W. H. Rothery, W. King, F. Rhodes, F. Tilley, and G. R. Robens. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings. - Daylesford Mercury.
